When I was a kid my Grandfather once said “The laser is a solution looking for a problem”. He was absolutely right and I have made a career of finding problems that the ultrafast laser can solve.I am endlessly fascinated by Lasers. I cant get enough of them. I lay awake at night reading articles from universities around the world studying lasers. They are the single most fascinating subject in the world to me.More specifically, Ultrafast Lasers and their uses for micromachining components for biomedical devices.I design machines with Ultrafast Lasers to micromachine parts with micron precision at production scale.I create and design processes for new and existing Bio-Medical device components using both protype machines and current production machines for manufacturing at scale.I design processes and machines together in the space between R&D and factory floor machines. I design the process for manufacturability by working with R&D to influence the design of the part. By understanding the machine needed for the specific part, we can either design and build a new machine to produce parts at scale, or use current manufacturing capabilities to process new parts without the need for additional capitol equipment.I select from multiple laser machines built with varying levels of complexity from low power marking lasers with simple interfaces, to ultrafast lasers combined with milti-axis beam steering, multi-axis part handling, vision systems, metrology and HMI.I can integrate all machine components, build and repair Control Systems and write code for controlling the individual system devices.
