Vanessa Peña-La Torre is a bilingual, multicultural sexuality educator, working in and with diverse communities across the lifespan, including Latino and LGBTQ+ cultural communities, persons navigating homelessness, and persons living with or affected by HIV since 2001. Her experience and passion resides in providing culturally responsive, trauma informed and inclusive educational and case management experiences that foster engaging opportunities where individuals may present as their authentic self. She has experience in writing, reviewing and adapting curriculum to ensure that lessons are culturally specific, age-appropriate, trauma-informed, inclusive and medically accurate. She has also worked as an HIV/STI tester and case manager, parent sexuality educator, and provides professional development to other health educators and K-12 teachers. Vanessa is passionate about primary and secondary prevention, and brings this passion to her current role at as a Health Education Program Manager at Portland Public Schools. She has a Master’s in Public Health, and is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES®) through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing.
