Ms. Lee is teaching graduate level students in Immersive Cyber Defense where students gain experience using several real-world tools against actual within a hands-on, gamified, virtual environment. The course uses the first ever gamified cyber range in Project Ares. Students practice offensive skills in password cracking and exploit development to understand vulnerabilities and then focus on defensive tactics to reduce cyber risk and respond threat attacks.The course is split into three units of study:• Unit 1: Adversary tools and tactics• Unit 2: Cybersecurity work roles: Harden, Monitor, Pursue, Coordinate (Lead/Intelligence)• Unit 3: Defense Team tactics and procedures following the NIST Cybersecurity FrameworkStudents successfully completing this course have an understanding of how to become experts in the field of cybersecurity and the types of technical careers available.

I'm have been privileged to lead an amazing team of cyber experts, software developers, virtualization engineers, artists and support personnel. We created Project Ares, an open, flexible cyber training and assessment platform, along with other new and exciting programs. We are working with Military, Commercial and Academic clients to radically change the way people learn and prove their skills in cybersecurity. Leading the charge to make Cyber Defense a reality for government and commercial entities - teaching how to take the network back! Developed an integrated, proactive defense strategy that can be implemented in scalable teams using the NIST Cybersecurity Framework as a method to quantify performance. Successfully led the first ever Collective Team training effort for Army and Navy Cyber Protection Teams that demonstrated the approach in a six week, on-range class with daily instruction and realistic cyber battles.At SimSpace, I worked closely with our network range developers to continue to define a Cyber Battleroom to support training. We included synthetic users and internet, automated and assisted attacks, mission scenarios and detailed cyber key terrain with which to develop and test cyber tactics and technology.

Cyber security applications and visualization of networks under attack. Lead of cyber team assessment in Cyber Flag, Cyber Guard and other exercises/experiments. Developed new tools and approaches to cyber team training and scoring level of proficiency. Created training manuals, tools, games and smartphone apps to each concepts in cyber. Authored the first ever Cyber Crew Operations Manual describing how a team can defend a network.As a senior engineer at APL, I supported USCYBERCOM on assessments of large scale cyber exercises. I developed tools to quantify cyber defense performance and worked with a very diverse team to integrate assessments into the exercise. In support of Office of Secretary Defense, Director Test and Evaluation, I lead the exercise control team for Project C, a leading edge cyber test and evaluation program. For the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), I led a team of software developers to prototype solutions incorporating strong authentication and authorization techniques into cybersecurity tools.

Developed technical solutions for systems in missile defense mission planning, signals intelligence collection and analysis, command and control applications and advanced satellites. Led the corporate Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMi) initiative and successful outside accreditation.• Customer Interface. Ten years on-site at the Pentagon and five years working directly with Combatant Commands, deploying temporarily and supporting numerous exercises.• Business Development. • Led multi-disciplined team in cyber technologies utilizing significant corporate strengths in high-speed network capture and re-assembly of products to detect, capture and analyze network attacks. Applied data classification algorithms to network attack detection problem resulting in ability to successful detect with low false alarm known attacks, attack variants and zero-day anomalies. Led the first ever, SPARTA Cyber Olympics pitting friendly and adversarial teams in cyber offense and defense.• Managed full life-cycle software development project for Missile Defense Mission planning for ten years meeting demanding warfighter requirements (in the JCIDS process) and achieving highest contract profit rate in the company. Developed accredited modeling approach for radars, interceptors and air borne laser systems in an integrated defense architecture. Resulting mission planner is described by military users as extremely intuitive, using supporting visualization and a robust analysis component that was certified by outside agencies. • Developed systems architecture and recommendations for changes to NATO to provide broader European missions with long-range sensors and weapons for missile defense. Drafted Information Exchange Requirements in eXtensible Markup Language (XML) and a Command and Control software architecture design using Unified Modeling Language (UML). Resulted in a substantially improved data model and system requirements specification for mission planning.• Led corporate 18-month effort for software Level 3 CMM/CMMi certification, resulting in first successful certification at SPARTA. Responsible for developing overall strategy, hiring training and auditing personnel and leading activities across the company.• Led development of data processing tools for intelligence applications for classifying text and audio data by language, subject and author. Capability successfully integrated in very large scale SIGINT system.

• For the Brilliant Pebbles satellite concept, performed the technical integration of the team, managed the subcontractors, and provided leadership in several key technical tasks. Led the activity to define and document the Brilliant Pebbles design in the government’s first Brilliant Pebbles Cost Analysis Requirements Document. The Brilliant Pebbles effort involved defining the system design and operation concept for a ballistic missile defense program. Activities included assessing the ability to perform surveil¬lance, establishing monocular tracks on targets, and determining defense performance for coordinated and autonomous battle management strategies. Developed a model for assessing alternative battle management concepts and integrated it with W.J. Schafer Associates, Inc.’s Engagement Timeline Analysis simulation for complete system effectiveness calculations. Other significant contributions include reports on Alternative Missions for Brilliant Eyes (1989), Brilliant Pebbles Evaluation for the Cooper Study (1990), System Effectiveness for Autonomous Systems (1990), Brilliant Pebbles Concept of Operations (1990), and TW/AA Assessment for Brilliant Pebbles (1990).
