The main interest was addressing the lesser explored spectral-temporal modes of single photons as the field of quantum technologies is rapidly evolving and demands a more natural, higher capacity basis for information encoding.I developed a full state tomography procedure that accessed the phase information of single photons. The self-referencing technique required careful manipulation of both the spectral and temporal phases to reconstruct the Wigner function of the photon in a single shot measurement. This work has involved the design and development of a 40GHz RF source, frequency locked with the single photon source as demanded by the electronics required to drive an optical phase modulator.I am also interested in Quantum Key Distribution, having also contributed to a proposal for a realistic QKD scheme that utilizes this spectral and temporal measurement of single photons for secure information transfer.
