Peoria, Illinois Area

Assisted in the implementation of the child passenger safety program, after becoming a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) in June 2007. I educated parents, both inpatient and in the community, about proper child restraint installation during hospital consultations and at community car seat check events in Peoria and Tazewelll counties. I also developed a 3-year summary report of the activities of the Peoria-area Injury Free Coalition for Kids (IFCK) and assisted in preparation for the grant re-approval site visit from the funder. I conducted data entry into the Pediatric Injury Surveillance Database of our hospital's pediatric trauma data. I assisted with the Heart of Peoria Neighborhood Association and the Peoria Park district for the Allstate Foundation's Columbia Park Build Day project, in which a brand new playground was donated and built in a deserving neighborhood in Peoria, Illinois. I also assisted in the implementation of several local bike rodeos, in which bike and helmet safety education was given in collaboration with the American Red Cross, Peoria Police Department and the Illinois Valley Wheelmen.
