About Laura Bouchard

I greatly enjoy teaching and making a difference in the lives of children. I especially passionate about working with younger children and seeing the great successes that they can make early on, that can open so many doors for them as they grow and develop. I have worked in a number of diverse educational environments, and each has added to my knowledge of and experience with what children need and how to teach the whole child. The experience that I have working with children with special needs has made me very aware of the diverse needs of my students and the necessity for accommodations, differentiation, and multi-sensory instruction so that all students can succeed. Throughout my teaching experiences, I am proud to have fostered a collaborative environment in which we (students, classroom assistants, and teachers) help each other out and are respectful and kind to one another, working and learning together as a community. For the first seven years of my teaching career, I worked with students with severe special needs in substantially separate settings. Working with these students gave me a solid foundation in ABA practices as well as experience in teaching behavioral and social skills to promote learning. From September 2013 to June 2014, I taught at Brookwood School in Manchester, MA, while pursuing a master’s degree in early childhood education from Lesley University. The experience I had to student teach in a kindergarten as well as first grade classroom was extremely fulfilling for me.After receiving my Early Childhood (PreK-2) license from DESE, I taught integrated preschool in the Salem MA public schools for three years. I loved being able to teach in this setting and I was able to further cultivate my practice of helping ALL children learn in differentiating all aspects of my teaching and curriculum. For the past three years, I had the opportunity to teach Kindergarten in the Newburyport Public Schools. Again, my classroom was integrated, which means I taught children with and without special needs in the same environment. My classroom was a place where joy, creativity, and exploration flourished and I was able to create a caring and supportive classroom community. I cherish this experience dearly, and hope to be able to continue teaching young children in the future!Licensure: Early Childhood: Students with and without Disabilities, PreK-2, Professional (Expires April 2024)Severe Disabilities, All Levels, Professional (Expires March 2021)Sheltered English Immersion - Teacher, Endorsement
