Associate State Director - Advocacy
Current• Manages non-partisan issue advocacy campaigns on the state level by working collaboratively with teams to develop advocacy and outreach tactics which includes cultivating relationships with elected officials and community partners. • Issue expert for health and long-term care, caregiving, and transportation issues. Highlights of 2014 include increases in Medicaid and non-Medicaid Home and Community Based funds and protections for vulnerable adults. • Represents AARP FL on committees/councils/boards/coalitions and testifies before hearings and legislative committees. • Responsible for keeping volunteers, staff, and members informed through talking points, legislative updates, and end of session reports. In 2014, supervised the production of AARP Florida’s annual voting record: aarp.org/flvotingrecord2014. • Lead on livable community issues, which includes developing and implementing advocacy and community outreach plans. Provides guidance to partners on local policies related to livable community issues such as complete streets and the AARP Age-Friendly Network.Serves on: Florida Transportation Plan and the Strategic Intermodal System Plan Steering Committee (2014-current); State Consumer Health Information and Policy Advisory Council (Appointed, 2012-current); Safe Mobility for Life Coalition: Advocacy and Policy Emphasis Area (Chair, 2012-current)
