Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region Research Institute, located at VIU, is dedicated to community engagement, relationship building and knowledge sharing. MABRRI focuses on research and community engagement initiatives primarily within the UNESCO-designated Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region, but also uphold VIU's Academic Research Plan by working on projects across Vancouver Island.As a research assistant, I am working alongside MABRRI to develop and facilitate community engagement, analyze data, write reports, and assist with knowledge dissemination. I am currently working on a revitalization project for the City of Nanaimo, assisting with qualitative research and community engagement for Bamfield Housing Needs Report, and completing graphics for the Canadian Mountain Network research project

As a Student Facilitator, I am working alongside an excellent team to create an inclusive design for promotional materials, web resources, evaluation tools and pre-departure/re-entry programs and intercultural training for Vancouver Island University's Education Abroad.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Symposium:Funded by a SSHRC Connection Grant, this virtual symposium will bring together 14 member institutions of the Alliance of Canadian Comprehensive Research Universities (ACCRU). The symposium will provide a venue for collaboration, discussions and shared learning around equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) planning. The goal of the symposium is to collaboratively develop a deeper understanding of research-based EDI best practices, including how to build institutional capacity; how to handle resistance to advancement of EDI on campuses; how to manage institutional cultural shifts when prioritizing EDI at universities; how to effectively apply an intersectional lens to EDI action and analysis; and the legal and human rights aspects of EDI.As a student coordinator, I am working alongside an excellent team to moderate, facilitate and run social media marketing for a two day conference hosted by Vancouver Island University.

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is one of the largest independent conservation organizations in the world. They are an international NGO committed to environmental protection active in almost 100 countries. They do ground work with experts in the Netherlands, which includes the Caribbean Netherlands islands. My role as a part time research assistant for WWF was to work with two visiting researchers on a round of interviews detecting the behavior and relationship of sustainable fishing on the island of St Eustatius, and the greater Netherlands Antilles. I was delegated to bridge the gap between the WWF team and local community members, conduct qualitative research, lead interviews and transcribe data, and create communication with stakeholders.

St Eustaius National Parks Foundation (STENAPA) manages three protected areas and a botanical garden on the island of St. Eustatius (Statia). The St. Eustatius Island Government identified 33km² of land and sea to be protected under law in order to preserve nature on Statia. STENAPA is mandated to manage and maintain this area for the benefit of the community.During my internship I completed trail maintenance, qualitative research, conservation, youth educational activities, tourism, consulted for the nonprofit board, assisted the marine park team in research dives and assisted with community engagement projects.
