I never really had a clear idea of what I wanted to do with my life. There was a time when I had somewhat unrealistic aspirations of working at Walt Disney World as a cast member, but aside from that there wasn't a specific career path that I had in mind.My first job was at a nursery in my home town. I was there for 10 years in total, working my way up to the position of Assistant Room Manager and gaining my Early Years Educator Qualification in the process. It's where I met some of my favourite people, and where I was also unknowingly practicing skills and gathering experience that shaped me into the person I am today.I also spent a couple of years working in customer support, finding resolutions for Boots Opticians patients and British Gas business customers. These roles confirmed to me that one of my key motivators is knowing that I've helped someone and made a positive impact on them.Two years ago I made the decision to move to the charity sector, so I could combine my existing skills and knowledge with my original passion - helping children to get the best start in life - and that is when I first discovered nurtureuk.Since July 2022, I have been coordinating the Nurturing Kent Programme - a 3 year programme commissioned by Kent County Council in 2021, for nurtureuk to deliver a training and resources package to educators in 300 schools across Kent, supporting them to embed an inclusive whole school nurturing approach into their settings.As the Nurturing Kent Programme comes to an end during the first term of 2024, I will be starting the position of Senior Programmes Officer, continuing to support schools in Kent as they come to the end of their training, and also taking over the coordination of the Inclusive and Nurturing Schools Programme - a similar bespoke programme commissioned by London's Violence Reduction Unit, delivered to educators in 70 schools across 7 London boroughs. I am so grateful to have not only found an organisation that inspires and motivates me, but also a role that ties together my whole employment journey so far. I now know what I want from my career, and that is to feel exactly how I feel right now, doing a job that I love, for an organisation I believe in, and knowing that my work is making a positive impact.
