My research focuses on building tools to help biologists analyze, visualize, and share biomedical data. These projects include outbreak.info, a platform to discover and explore COVID-19 data, including our Variant Reports, which allow you to track the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 Variants of Concern in real-time in any location. We also develop the Center for Viral Systems Biology's Data Portal, data.cvisb.org, to openly share systems biology data on COVID-19, Ebola, and Lassa Fever.

With collaborators at the Washington University in St. Louis and University of Kentucky, I developed an interactive website to explore and visualize genomic data exploring the diversity of gene expression in muscle tissues. http://muscledb.org/

I worked with a team to analyze data to better understand poverty in developing countries. Through analysis and visualization of these data, we distilled down complex information to enable data-driven decision making by policy makers. My work was primarily done in R, with some additional interactive graphics in Shiny, other interactive visualizations using packages in R, and D3. Additionally, I taught others about responsible and effective data visualization.

In my interdisciplinary research at Stanford, I developed platforms to study membrane proteins, which represent > 60% of drug targets but are difficult to study. This research blended microscopy, surface chemistry, nanofabrication, and membrane biology together.
