In 2023, I graduated with my Master of Arts in Teaching: Secondary English from Western Governors University. In the past, I have served as a permanent substitute teacher at the middle school level and as a Title I academic tutor at the elementary level. I also have experience tutoring privately, both in creative writing and in the fundamentals of language (reading fluency, comprehension, etc.). I believe strongly in the importance of Social Emotional Learning and I have also taught an SEL course to elementary students in an Extended School Year setting. I'm passionate about literacy education and developing a love of reading in young people!Previously, I attended Elon University where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English, double concentrating in literature and creative writing. I completed a two year research project that culminated in a collection of personal essays about loss in young adulthood. Three of these essays have been published in undergraduate literary magazines, including one which was awarded first place in nonfiction by the North Carolina College Media Association.
