I was responsible for the following ranges; leather goods, charms & special projects/collaborations. I was the sole product developer of the eyewear range; optical & sunglasses. Within my role, I had to work closely with Burberry’s Vice President of Product Development: Accessories and travel to Italy regularly for design & development meetings.Responsibilities:- Responsible for multiple ranges; eyewear, jewellery, charms, belts, small leather goods & gifting.- Worked across a vast range of materials: acetate, metals, plastic, fabrics (inc. cotton, cashmere & wool), semi-precious stones, wood & leather (inc. exotic).- Create, review & update the critical path on a daily basis and take any action necessary to ensure timely deliveries.- Launch designs to vendors in Italy, Far East (China) and England.- General management of the design and development processes offsite with vendors.- Create a platform for regular discussions with cross-functional teams: Merchandising, Design & Production, to review the collection, both creatively and structurally.- Ensure product (samples and production) is manufactured to the highest standard by maintaining a strong relationship with all suppliers and vendors.- Ensure sample material orders have been placed to cover requirements.- Ensure costings have been received from the supplier and negotiated where necessary.- Attended internal leather training.Achievements:- The creation of the Thomas charm which was one of the fastest grossing products within Burberry.- Implemented a new working structure with the eyewear manufacturer to meet the ‘see now, buy now’ needs; new critical path, range requirements & aesthetics.- The setup and development of the leather monogramming in store and online.- Lead the product development for the range (leather goods, stationery & gifting) within the Vigo St concept store.- Worked on successful collaborative projects with Bower & Wilkins, The Animal Ball & Luke Edward Hall.
Jewellery Product Developer
I worked in collaboration with the Head Jewellery Designer from design realisation, daily range planning meetings, raw material sourcing (worldwide) and sampling through to production. The role required travel to Thailand for up to three months of the year to oversee the sampling and development of the range, as well as finding new suppliers as the range demanded. Responsibilities:- Create and maintain the critical path from sketch to store. - Maintain a strong working relationship with the factories to ensure we achieve the best result.- Work overseas in the Far East (Thailand & China) with our suppliers and manufacturers.- Set and manage the sampling and shipping budgets.- Negotiate all strategic deals with suppliers to ensure prices and terms are commercial and sustainable.- Review all raw materials and finished goods from suppliers to ensure they conform to expected and agreed standards of price, quality, delivery and expertise.- Support the production team in finding solutions to keep production delays to a minimum as we work to tight deadlines.- Ensure the finished product is delivered within target margin and on a timely basis.- Assist with the creation of the belts / leather goods range from design and development- Liaise with photographers and give art direction at all major photoshoots ensuring the product looks as good as it can.- Assist with the backstage styling at the catwalk shows and advertising campaigns.- Present the collection each season to the Managing directors, buyers, press and marketing.- Produce the selling catalogue each season which involves working with the graphic design team and printers to achieve the best result.Achievements:- Managerial experience leading a team of 4; ensuring all tasks are followed through by setting daily / weekly tasks for them to achieve.- Implementing new ways of working; range planning & structure.- Creating a clear and concise supplier database which grew each season.
