Laura is an educator, musician, and gardener. She has worked as a middle school teacher, office manager at a learning clinic, and a King County Metro bus driver. Born in Colombia, she became a US citizen when she was 5 years old. She’s lived in NY, Santa Monica / Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle, since 2009. Public speaking appearances include: UCLA Lake Arrowhead Symposium, Rail~Volution, YimbyTown, and various panels, podcasts and radio appearances to discuss housing justice and community organizing. She is passionate about people-centered, climate-resilient transit oriented development.Her writing has appeared in Data for Progress, The Urbanist, The Stranger, The Seattle Globalist, South Seattle Emerald, and International Examiner. She is the founder of Share The Cities, that focuses on equitable access to opportunity whether through physical or digital spaces. The organization is now an all-volunteer collective.
