Conducting policy analysis and development in the marine and maritime sectors by contributing to the European Integrated Maritime Policy, the Blue Growth Agenda as well as the implementation of the EU Atlantic Strategy and associated Action Plan.The Marine Resources Unit defines and implements research and innovation objectives and priorities to support the EU's Integrated Maritime Policy, in particular the Blue Growth Agenda, thereby contributing to the sustainable and responsible management of marine resources, both in Europe and globally. It consults industry and other stakeholders concerned and ensures coherence between research and innovation objectives and bioeconomy policy objectives. Furthermore, the Unit coordinates the Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance while monitoring and contributing to specific initiatives such as the Joint Programming Initiative Healthy and Productive Seas and Oceans (JPI-Oceans) and the Baltic Sea Research and Development Programme (BONUS).

Conducting policy analysis on the Blue Economy and Blue Growth by reporting directly to the Director of Policy, Innovation and Research Services at the Marine Institute, who also acts as National Delegate to the Programme Committee for Horizon 2020 Societal Challenge 2: Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture and Forestry, Marine and Maritime and Inland Water Research and the Bio-economy. As part of my role I have performed analysis of Irish performance in this Societal Challenge and prepared briefing material in advance of programme committee meetings. Working in the Marine Institute has afforded me the opportunity to become familiar with National and European maritime initiatives. At a European level these include the Atlantic Action Plan, the EC Blue Growth Strategy and a Horizon 2020 Coordination and Support Action (CSA) project which supports transatlantic research cooperation. Nationally, I researched and prepared inputs to the National Marine Research & Innovation Strategy (2015-2020). I have also played a significant role in the organisation of the Harnessing Our Ocean Wealth Conference and Events in July 2015. This annual event is a key component of the Engagement with the Sea goal of the national Integrated Maritime Plan.http://www.ouroceanwealth.ie
