I am a Principal H&S consultant with System Concepts Ltd, an independent health, safety and ergonomics consultancy, established in 1982. We offer practical, cost-effective support to help our clients manage risk, prevent injuries and ill health and improve employee well-being. Services include: acting as a competent person and providing advice and support; conducting audits of health and safety management systems and developing and implementing action plans; carrying out workplace inspections; developing, reviewing and revising health and safety policies and procedures; conducting and recording risk assessments including display screen equipment, fire, manual handling, driving, general workplace, work equipment, work at height, COSHH; developing and delivering health and safety training; providing guidance on the suitability of chairs and work equipment; assisting employers with satisfying the requirements of The Equality Act, including carrying out disability access audits; and carrying out research, including evaluating the impact of the Work at Height Regulations, identifying human factors associated with slip and trip accidents and analysing compensation claims for the Health and Safety Executive.

Laura carried out a number of research projects, many of which were published. She was lead author of ‘ADULTDATA’ – a handbook of anthropometric and physical strength data for designers (produced for the UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)), and co-author of ‘OLDER ADULTDATA’ – a sister publication containing design-relevant data on the older adult. She was also author of ‘Strength data for design’, which is a DTI publication containing design-applicable data on the physical strength of children and adults.
