As the Director of the Estuary Technical Group at the Institute for Applied Ecology and owner of Green Point Consulting, I provide scientific decision support for wetland conservation and restoration efforts in the Pacific Northwest, the U.S. West Coast, and beyond. For the past decade, my work has focused on estuarine wetlands. My clients include federal, state and local government agencies and non-profits. My work has consistently maintained a dual-scale project focus: (1) regional and basin-scale projects to assist strategic planning; and (2) site-scale projects to build our "on-the-ground" understanding of these complex natural systems. My collaborative large-scale projects include mapping, characterization and prioritization of wetland resources; development of strategic plans; data development to assist restoration practitioners; and research on wetland ecology. At the site scale, I lead teams that design, implement and monitor estuarine wetland restoration and conservation projects. Our focus is on efficient and cost-effective monitoring to provide accountability for restoration investments and advance the science of restoration. I enjoy collaboration and have served as a team leader or core team member for interdisciplinary teams working to improve mapping of estuarine wetlands nationwide, quantification of "blue carbon" functions of coastal wetlands, and monitoring of Oregon’s largest estuarine wetland restoration projects.Specialties: estuarine wetland restoration; estuarine wetland ecology, botany, hydrology, and geomorphology
