MIT in Role April 2016 - March 2017.I managed the Chesterfield Inlet, Nunavut location initially as a relief manager, but I was quickly promoted to a Store Manager training in role. In this position I was accountable for all aspects of running a grocery/retail store, while simultaneously completing the company training program unassisted. During this time, I increased sales across the board, driving grocery sales and GM sales up 30%. I completed the training program in early 2017 and then acted as the key role trainer for my grocery manager, who went on to complete his training program shortly after with exceptional results. The Chesterfield Inlet location includes a Post Office which was run under my supervision in accordance with all Canada Post policies and federal laws. All of this was done while working through the challenges associated with remote Arctic living: extreme cold, irregular freight, high costs, and general lack of resources.

It was my job to assess and predict the needs and purchasing habits of my community, order the appropriate products to meet those needs, and maintain the department through proper pricing, merchandising, and inventory control. As the sole manager in the retail department, I worked well when given autonomy, but I also loved contributing to the group dynamic of the entire management team. The highlight of my day was working with people, whether it's chatting up the community elders or working with the junior staff, it's the people who make all the difference.
