What a privilege it is to be able to service the Door County schools and businesses as the Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator. My position is made possible by the partnership between the Door County Economic Development Corporation and the Ahnapee Youth Apprenticeship (YA) Consortium. What attracted me to this position was the ability to assist students in investigating who they are, what their passions are, their strengths, and how those valuable characteristics can be used within a career. The opportunities available to these students are rapidly increasing with the help of our excellent business partnerships within Door County, and I am very excited to be a part of it. The experiences available to the students are going to put them steps ahead for their future both professionally and personally. Gone are the days when “you have time to figure out what you want to be after high school.” The time is NOW, with the ever growing cost of post-secondary education, and the current economic climate. The YA Program is an innovative way to allow our youth to serve the community well for what will hopefully be many years to come.I earned a bachelor's degree from UWSP in Athletic Training in 2011. Upon graduation I moved to Door County to work for Door County Medical Center serving the high schools of Door County. After some time in the Greater Milwaukee Area I am returning to Door County because for my family, this is home. I greatly missed my connections with the students and the schools, the community, and the outdoors. I am excited to use my experiences as a professional whose career has evolved over the years with the students.
