About Lauren Grant

Work at University of Pennsylvania (Ph.D. 2019): My graduate research in the Mindiola lab has involved the synthesis, characterization, and reactivity of novel metal-ligand multiple bonds including titanium nitrides and a rare titanium methylidene. My work also targeted the isolation of the first terminal zirconium nitride complex. These extremely reactive molecules are of interest to industrial nitride thin films and by isolation of their molecular analogues, we were able to investigate this triple bond using spectroscopic and theoretical analysis. I have also studied the reactivity of the the phosphorus analog of cyanate, the phosphaethynolate anion, OCP-, with early transition metals and characterized these unique complexes.Work at UC Berkeley (B.S. 2015): I investigate the reactivity of niobium bisimido complexes supported by the beta-diketiminato ligand (BDI) for the applications of small molecule activation and catalysis. This research seeks to promote important industrial organic reactions, such as hydroamination of alkynes, by inexpensive and earth abundant metal catalysts as opposed to traditional precious metal catalysts.
