As the Manager of Admissions and Recruitment, I am responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the School of Medicine holistic admissions process and recruitment initiatives. This includes leading the logistics planning of all medical school interviews and serving as an administrator for the Council on Selection. This role challenges me to evaluate problems and develop solutions in current admissions practices by using national trends and research data to make decisions. Supervising a team of three staff and two student workers, I strive to create an environment where all feel empowered and supported as we work together to identify the next generation of professionals in medicine.

Department Of Family And Consumer Sciences - Normal, Illinois, United States

Academic Advising: As my main responsibility, I provided plans of study and advice regarding course selection to 125+ students in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences majors (FCS Teacher Education; Fashion Design and Merchandising; Food, Nutrition, and Dietetics; Human Development and Family Science; Interior Design)Recruitment: In addition to advising students, I served as the main point of contact for all recruitment initiatives in the department. As the person leading this charge, I represented the department at all university-wide open houses, high school visits, community events, and more. I planned the logistics for all prospective student events and co-created a scholarship initiative designed to educate future students about careers in FCS. Student Ambassador Program Supervisor: After the COVID-19 pandemic took students away from campus for my first year at ISU, I saw this leadership opportunity as a way to rebuild a program from the ground up. Beginning in 2021, I recruited, hired, and trained a new team of 25+ student leaders who assisted with all recruitment and retention initiatives within department. Students were given the tools and support to successfully market department programs in a new digital age and worked as a team to establish connections with current and future students. In 2022, I was able to work closely with a donor to establish the FCS Ambassador Fund which awarded an outstanding student ambassador with scholarship money as a token of appreciation for all their work in representing the department. Professional Practice Internship Coordinator: Throughout each academic year, I facilitated the application process of all FCS students completing internships for required credit toward their degrees. I taught students how to conduct an internship search, managed application and approval processes, answered questions from external site supervisors, and facilitated liability agreements in conjunction with ISU's legal counsel.

As a graduate assistant in UNI's centralized advising office, I developed a myriad of skills that helped kick start my career as a student affairs professional. In this role, I gained experience working directly with students through the career exploration process, providing support and guidance specifically to students in the exploratory or "undecided" major. I also oversaw the Peer Advisor Program, a team of current college students that assist their peers in registering for classes, understanding university systems, and identifying connections to campus resources. This responsibility gave me great insight into how to successfully recruit, train, and facilitate volunteer programs while also allowing me to sharpen my leadership skills.

While on summer break from my graduate assistantship, I was hired as an intern with the Office of Academic Advising to learn how to successfully execute the first-year orientation experience for new students. During this internship, I dipped my toe in almost every aspect of orientation which included conducting 1:1 advising meetings, delivering welcome presentations, leading breakout sessions for information on general requirements, leading and troubleshooting computer registration, and serving as a surface-level expert for 160 undergraduate programs.

Through this internship, I was able to explore the functional area of Greek life and student involvement as part of the higher education experience. In this position, I organized and facilitated bi-weekly meetings for the Multicultural Greek Committee in an effort to help grow chapter membership while also developing programming for current and emerging leaders in the UNI Greek community. Traditionally, membership in Greek organizations comes with stigma, so I sought to learn more by attending competency webinars hosted by fraternity and sorority professional associations and took advantage of opportunities to present on current issues regarding Greek life both nationally and at UNI to students interested in holding leadership roles within their chapters.
