Serve in a judiciary law enforcement position & assist in the administration of justice & promote community safety, supervise offenders, interact with collateral agencies, prepare reports, conduct investigations, & present recommendations to the court. Duties involve both general probation cases & specialized high-risk offenders, such as mental health, substance abuse, sex offenses, computer-related & financial crimes. Conduct investigations & prepare reports for the court with recommendations, which requires interviewing offenders & their families, as well as collecting background data from various sources. An integral part of this process is the interpretation & application of policies and procedures, statutes, Federal Rules of Criminal Procedures, & may include U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, Monographs, & relevant case law. Track legal developments, & update staff & the court. Enforce court-ordered supervision components, & implement individual-focused supervision treatment strategies. Address, reduce or eliminate offenders high risk factors, monitor their compliance with release conditions. Maintain personal contact with offenders through office, community, telephone contact. Investigate employment, sources of income, lifestyle, & associates to assess risk & compliance. Address mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence, computer/financial access, & implement treatment or violation proceedings, through on-going assessment, monitoring, & counseling. Locate, provide & schedule suitable contract & non-contract services to maximize effectiveness of treatment or services for offenders. Maintain computerized records of results & progress. Respond to judicial request for information. Testify in court as to the basis for factual findings & guideline applications. Serve as a resource &expert in high risk issues to staff, line officers & court. Maintain records of case activity. Conduct surveillance & search & seizure at the direction of the court.

Conduct presentence investigation with offenders convicted of a federal offense awaiting sentencing by the United States District Court, Central District of California. Apply the United States Guideline to the offense of conviction. Review investigative materials regarding offenders’ involvement in the offense. Obtain and calculate the offender’s criminal history and category. Conduct interviews with the offender and their counsel to obtain their perspective on their involvement in the offense as well as collect offender’s personal demographic information.Formulate a report including sentencing recommendations. Provide a written response to legal objections raised by the prosecutor and defense counsel. Attend sentencing hearings.

Provide clinical supervision at King Drew to four clinical social workers who provide prevention services to families monitored by the Department of Children and Family Services and are Court mandated to receive an array of family preservation services.
