Profile bio

About Oluwatoyin Sogbesan

I am passionate about rebranding Africa through new discourses on all that the continent represents from the perspective of Africans. Acknowledging the power of the available traditional knowledge systems and intangible heritage that constitutes identity, history and unique value associated with specific African communities. Discarding the ideology that 'one solution fits all situations' is a hoax and encouraging a better understanding of communities to identify similarities and differences that inspire respect and equity amongst peoples and cultures. Bearing this in mind, I strive to facilitate an inclusive participatory culture that helps in the interpretation and representation of the art and culture of diverse communities.. Within the Museum, exploring digital technology in the documentation, preservation and dissemination of cultural artefacts contributes to decolonising the physical space by extending the museum's educational and social mediation role to the virtual space. To this end, museums without walls are likely to emerge to present the past in the present. I also encourage communities to become stakeholders in the documentation, care and storage of their cultural ancestral collections, respecting gender specificity, naming system and sacred valuesMy work between tangible and intangible heritage contributes to educating current and future design professionals of the built environment on the importance and influence of the intangible on the tangible heritage of Africa. Therefore there is a need to document systems, technology and materials.

Listed skills include Research, Historic Preservation, Project Management, Cultural Heritage, and 16 others.
