Leah is a pioneer and leader in property management, losing her son to Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in 2008 and for summiting Mount Everest in 2017.In 1994 Leah Jay commenced her property management business as a sole trader in Hamilton. Leah ventured into business for herself after heading the ‘rentals’ team at one of the region’s most reputable real estate firms.Leah realised that, despite the best efforts of management, the interests of sales and rentals were often not the same and usually sales would hold sway. It became evident there was a need for a service dedicated to property management; a specialist service with superior levels of expertise and commitment, beyond the established ‘rentals departments’. It is likely that this was the first business in the country dedicated solely to property management. Certainly there was no other in this region and soon after local businesses began changing their titles from ‘real estate’ and ‘rentals’ to ‘property’ or ‘property management’.Away from business, Leah loves mountain climbing and set herself the challenge of climbing the ‘seven summits’. She has successfully completed six summits including Mount Everest in May 2017. Only a couple of handfuls of Australian women have achieved this before her.Leah is also a passionate advocate for raising awareness and funds for MND. In 2017, Leah took part in the inaugural Big Freeze Newcastle and went on to become Chairperson for the 2018 event raising $215,983 for Fight MND.
