Dr. Leana Wen is a practicing physician and healthcare executive. She serves as an independent board member of Glaukos Corporation (NYSE: GKOS) and UroGen Pharma (NASDAQ: URGN) and is on the audit committee for both as well the chair of the nominating and corporate governance committee for UroGen. She also chairs the advisory board of the Behavioral Health Group, the largest Joint Committee-accredited network of outpatient opioid treatment centers. In addition, she is a member of the board of directors of the Bipartisan Policy Center and the Baltimore Community Foundation and serves on the advisory boards of tech start-ups MANUAL and B Generous.Dr. Wen has extensive experience in public policy and regulatory affairs, including as health commissioner for the city of Baltimore, where she led the nation’s oldest continuously operating health department to combat the opioid epidemic and improve maternal and child health. She has conducted health systems research in China, South Africa, United Kingdom, and Rwanda, and served as principal investigator and scientific advisor for Kit Company, a home diagnostics start-up. An expert in public health and policy, she is a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and adjunct associate professor at the George Washington University. She is also an op-ed columnist for The Washington Post, where she writes twice weekly columns and anchors the Post newsletter "The Checkup with Dr. Wen"; a frequent contributor to CNN, PBS, BBC, and National Public Radio; and the author of two books, When Doctors Don't Listen: How to Avoid Misdiagnoses and Unnecessary Tests (St. Martin’s Press, 2013) and Lifelines: A Doctor’s Journey in the Fight for Public Health (Henry Holt, 2021).Dr. Wen obtained her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine and studied health and economic policy at the University of Oxford, where she was a Rhodes Scholar. While in the U.K., she worked as an equity research analyst for Lehman Brothers. Subsequently, she completed her residency training in emergency medicine at Brigham & Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, where she was a clinical fellow at Harvard Medical School. A member of the Council on Foreign Relations, Dr. Wen has received recognition as one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People, World Economic Forum’s Young Global Leaders, and Governing’s Public Official of the Year. In 2017 and 2019, Modern Healthcare named her one of their 50 top clinician executives and in 2021 one of their most influential people in healthcare.
