Leanna Scachetti is a National Murrow and Emmy award-winning journalist at WCVB in Boston. She is also a Northeastern University Fellow with the Reinventing Local TV News Project. She has experience MMJing, anchoring, digital anchoring, podcast producing and hosting as well as digital content producing. After working as an MMJ at WDBJ7 in Roanoke, Virginia for three years, Leanna transitioned in 2020 to design a new Digital Anchor position, taking the lead on developing WDBJ7's OTT product. In 2022, she began leading a team of podcast producers. In nine years, she has done everything from report, anchor, produce, booth and edit shows, host podcasts and strategize streaming to taking on special projects, vertical video storytelling, reporting for sister stations, as well as mentoring students and peers.Leanna works with innovation in mind. She has organized and hosted a successful in-person storytelling event featuring engaging interviews with local notables. She doubled downloads of the three time National Murrow-winning Hometown Stories podcast annually with storytelling on compelling topics such as the residual effects of urban renewal on marginalized communities, the lived experience of a Jewish woman who escaped Nazi Germany hiding in a convent, and an auditory tour of North America’s only coffee grinder museum. And one day she singlehandedly punched video for several newscasts from the Digital News Desk when Master Control faced technical difficulties. Leanna strives to engage her community with thoughtful, impactful and high-quality stories people remember long after the story airs. Previously, Leanna reported for WJHG in Panama City Beach, Florida where she served as an award-winning reporter and weekend anchor. Leanna graduated from the University of Florida with honors where she studied Broadcast Journalism, minored in Spanish and worked as a Resident Assistant. Leanna worked at WUFT News as an anchor, reporter and producer for the university’s PBS affiliate TV station and the NPR affiliate radio station, while also occasionally contributing to the independent student newspaper, The Alligator.When not at work Leanna likes to travel, hike, kayak, ski, golf, fish, practice yoga, learn phrases in foreign languages and sip coffee with friends. She is fluent in Spanish and speaks basic Portuguese. She's been a bridesmaid five times and a best man once. There was also a brief stint on the local roller derby team...
