Brand Designer

The Norfolk Sloe Company

Fakenhham, Norfolk

I have developed a creative and imaginative work ethic throughout the growth of my family’s business. This is particularly shown by my marketing work in designing The Norfolk Sloe Company brand image, the iconic Black Shuck. Oct 2011 - Dec 2019

Volunteer Coordinator

Norwich, United Kingdom

In my role of Volunteer Coordinator, I assisted with the recruitment and management of approximately 140 volunteers who supported the delivery of Norfolk & Norwich Festival 2017. As part of the recruitment process, I took the lead on organising several events including a 'Speed Meet' and a careers workshop at the local university. I created spreadsheets and databases to record and produce a master schedule of volunteering shifts across the Festival programme. This is mostly done on Excel, on which I am becoming increasingly confident.During the festival, I assisted with the management of the volunteers which involved briefing them at the beginning of every shift, dealing with last minute shift cancellations, looking out for safeguarding and health and safety issues, and being a general point of contact. My role will also involved organising and coordinating the end of Festival volunteer and staff party, for which I was given a budget to manage. As the Volunteer Coordinator intern, I believe that despite my contract being fixed term for 4 months, my actions made a lasting impact on the way volunteers are managed at future Festivals. In order to improve the selection process and general experience for a volunteer, I was been involved with the designing of several surveys and Focus Group studies. After the Festival, I was involved in the analysis of the feedback we received.

Feb 2017 - Jun 2017

Volunteer Coodinator

Madagascar

I assisted with the running and management of the camps at which I was based during the 2016 season in the dry forest of North West Madagascar. I organised and scheduled the weekly activities of the school groups and volunteers and ensured they were kept updated and aware of the schedule at all times. This was done by liaising with the local Malagasy staff and with the field scientists. The activities included herpetofauna, invertebrate and lemur surveys, bird point counts, bird mist-netting and forest plot surveys. I acted as a first point of contact for the volunteers, gathered feedback and ensured that relevant information was passed onto the senior staff and necessary improvements were made. I was also responsible for conducting forest plot surveys twice per day, which involved setting up a 20m x 20m sample area, measuring tree diameter, estimating tree height, measuring canopy cover and sampling saplings. This data collected will be used to design and implement Community Forest Management schemes such as REDD+ in the Mahamavo forest region.I had one day off per week and my favourite activity to take part in was the bird mist-netting. I enjoyed watching the scientists handle and take measurements of a wide variety of bird species, including species endemic to Madagascar.
