The program allows students with disabilities from our local schools to talk to employees in different positions to understand what it takes to get a job and continue to grow in the job.We also provide the Bender Leadership Academy in Delaware. The program originated in Delaware and teaches students with disabilities how to be prepared for the world of work, how to interview, helps them with public speaking and what is expected of them when they get a job. We also provide a graduation for those students who have successfully completed the program.

Since joining CSC in 1997, I’ve held a number of positions. I started managing Service Level Agreements for the DuPont account. I then moved on to being a resource manager in the business. During that time, I helped develop a reassignment process for those in Delaware looking for other opportunities. Later I moved into the HR organization where I support a number of areas and work with them on hiring, performance appraisals, succession planning, career development, employee issues, etc.Since 1998, I’ve been the CSC/Bender liaison for hiring people with disabilities in North America. During that time I’ve also managed Disability Mentoring Day at our Delaware location. We have students with disabilities from the local high schools come to CSC and sit with two mentors. They learn what it takes to be successful in the workforce, how the mentors got into their positions, understand that these are opportunities that are available to them and help them get ready for the workforce.I also worked with Bender Consulting and the local high schools to start the Leadership Academy. This program is presented by Joyce Bender, CEO and President of Bender Consulting Services. The students come 4 times during the year and learn how to be prepared for the workforce such as how to dress, the work on public speaking, preparing a resume, what is expected while you are at work, etc. At the end of the 4th session, we have a graduation for the students. This has been highly successful and it is truly rewarding to see the students grow over this time and hear their success stories.

During my time at DuPont, I worked in the Finance organization in IT. I managed projects, wrote training manuals and provided the training, installed computers, wrote mainframe applications, installed wiring closets, worked on a helpdesk, installed and managed servers as well as managing large moves of employees from one location to another.
