From the very first day of school, I loved math. “End of Story. Goodbye. The end.” - Mad-Eye Moody. So it’s not surprising that I ended up an investor. To borrow again from the same movie, “…we must choose between what is easy and what is right.” – Albus Dumbledore. Choosing what is right is the clear answer to me, so it’s not surprising that I ended up a philanthropist and a nonprofit board member. Whether it’s managing retirement funds for public servants, or raising money to help under-represented groups, it’s important to me to feel that I’m making the world a better place.I have over two decades of experience evaluating management performance, business strategies and financial statements as an investor in over 300 companies. I worked for investment firms representing public and private equity strategies with a focus on high-growth early-stage companies and turnarounds. My expertise spans various industries including health care, technology and retail. I created and implemented a mutual fund’s environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) policy. I quickly discern strategic alternatives and the corresponding investment opportunities. Whether it’s capital allocation decisions, revenue growth strategies or margin expansion potential, after 300 investments it’s easy to apply past lessons learned to prospective investments.Recently, I joined the advisory board of a hedge fund investing in digital assets and I’ve sat on three nonprofit boards. I founded an endowment to support a scholarship program for women studying finance at the undergraduate and graduate level. I led the endowment team through decision-making regarding the legal structure, strategy, goals and tactics. I managed the process to identify, cultivate and solicit donors at two nonprofits culminating in over 800 new donors and $1.2 million raised, inclusive of two 6-figure donations. As an adjunct professor at Mills College, I taught Principles of Investing to undergraduate and graduate level women. I also taught a financial literacy class to children of color at the high school level.I am a CFA Charterholder with an MBA from UCLA and a BS in mathematics and economics from UIUC. I enjoy outdoor activities including hiking (especially while listening to Stuff You Missed in History), swimming, snorkeling and yoga. I also relish a good book, especially the fantasy genre (you had to see that coming!). I also have the travel bug and have visited 27 countries and counting.
