I am currently a first-year PhD student at the Institute of Immunology and Immunotherapy at the University of Birmingham. My research is dedicated to exploring how suppressive myeloid cells (MDSCs) inhibit anti-tumour responses and how we may be able to target these cells to enhance immunotherapeutic strategies. Additionally, I am interested in using knowledge of the development and accumulation of MDSCs to create early diagnostic tools for various cancer types, with a focus on ovarian cancer. My academic journey began with a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, where I graduated with First Class Honours. My honours project was a pivotal experience, where I explored the role of the protein supervillin in tumour development and chemotherapy resistance within a breast cancer cell line.I have also had the privilege of interning at the Cancer Research UK Scotland Institute, thanks to the 2023 Wellcome Trust Biomedical Vacation Scholarship. During my internship, I worked within the Leukocyte Dynamics group, investigating the impact of chemotherapeutic drugs on neutrophil immunosurveillance in the pre-metastatic lung niche of mammary tumour-bearing mice.These experiences have fueled my passion for cancer immunology. I am committed to advancing my expertise in this field and contributing to the development of novel cancer immunotherapies that can make a meaningful difference in patients' lives.
