- I was part of a small team that is trying to collate as much company data as possible so that it could be standardized and cross-referenced for use in reporting and machine learning. - Most of my work involved interfacing with different systems to pull out data at intervals and store it. - I was involved in the initial organisation of a pilot short course on the topic of Irish Identities. The course was to be run in 2015 as part of the UCC Boole 200 celebrations.- I was responsible for co-ordinating all elements of the course. I co-ordinated the speakers to provide course content and organised the timetable for the two days. I also put together promotional materials to market the course.

- I organised IT Experience Programmes for Transition Year students and a summer camp each year. These week-long programmes were designed to give the students a better idea of what Computer Science involves through lectures and interactive labs with academic staff. My work consisted of contacting secondary schools to promote the programmes, managing applications from students and co-ordinating staff to help out with the week.- I attended school visits and open evenings to promote Computer Science in secondary schools. This involved giving talks to students and answering their queries. I also assisted in preparing the promotional materials that we gave out to prospective students.- I organised the Computer Science stand at undergraduate open days.

Title: Combining and Choosing Case Base Maintenance Algorithms- My PhD was in the area of decision support systems. We worked in the area of case-basedreasoning (CBR) and more specifically the maintenance of CBR systems.- Our research examined machine learning and data mining algorithms that are currently used to maintain case bases and how they can be improved. Our experiments involved running our algorithms on large test datasets and comparing the results to the results obtained by existingmachine learning algorithms. We developed a system to combine algorithms in different ways to compensate for any weaknesses in the individual algorithms.- In the course of my research I collaborated with a research group in Madrid and developed versions of my maintenance algorithms to be included in their Java open source case-based reasoning system, jCOLIBRI.- All development for my research experiments was done through Java.Supervisor: Dr. Derek Bridge

- I was involved in the creation of a community-based landscaping website for a US-basedclient. The website allowed users to interact with each other by making friends, chatting, and sharing information and photos. The website also included a database of suppliers that users could search to find goods or services that they required.- My role consister of updating of existing code from an existing website to provide all of the functionality required. I elicited requirements from our client and developed all of the back- end functionality while liaising with a developer in Asia who provided the front-end code.- I also managed the deployment and maintenance of the website on the server.Technologies: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, mySQL, Eclipse, Drupal, Joomla, Sobi2, JomSocial, CometChat.

- I worked with the Connection Machine, which is an application used by PwC employees. Theapplication automatically connects people with questions about various topics to experts with potential answers to those questions. Each person is represented as a user profile in the system and his/her areas of expertise are captured in his/her profile.- I developed Java code to analyse what knowledge was contained within the user profiles and to pick out what topics were covered well or badly. This gave an indication of how well the machine would work to recommend experts.- I also used Social Network Analysis to visualise the knowledge contained in the user profiles and to visualise how the different knowledge was connected.
