Graduate Researcher

My research is primarily work on developing and improving a high-performance Detection of Internally Reflected Cherenkov light (DIRC) detector for use in an Electron-Ion Collider (EIC).- Use the Geant4 simulation tool kit to simulate a prototype DIRC used in a 2015 CERN test beam- Use ROOT for analysis of both data and simulation for the CERN prototype- Built a laser setup used to measure the focal plane of a specialized 3-layer lens design proposed for an EIC DIRC and validate with Geant4 simulationIn the summers of 2014-2016 I participated in testing various brands and models of Micro-channel plate photomultiplier tubes (MCP-PMTs) in high-strength magnetic fields up to five (5) Tesla for voltage and gain dependence of the field and orientation.- Experiment installation, data taking, and data analysis- Operated high-field solenoid, high voltage module, and liquid helium transferAs a side project I assisted staff scientists in Hall B of Jefferson Lab with developing software for reconstructing detector geometry for the new CLAS12 detector- Wrote python and Java code within a pre-existing framework to encode the geometry and placement of various sub-detector systems - Code is standardized and part of the current (2016) software packageMy initial research project was as part of the Jefferson Lab Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering (DVCS) Collaboration doing Monte Carlo simulation studies to determine expected cross-section values and count rates for the DVCS experiment that ran in Hall A of Jefferson Lab in 2015- Assisted in building an electro-magnetic calorimeter from delicate lead fluoride crystals- Geant4 simulations of signal and background to evaluate validity of a transversely polarized target experiment- Worked on building and fixing the data acquisition programs necessary to run the experiment
