About Hook:Hook was founded in 2021 by Firaas Rashid with the aim of conquering "the biggest unsolved problem in software" - to accurately predict which customers a business should focus on to grow revenue faster. A large part of my working week is spent productionising explainable ML models capable of predicting customer churn up to 180 days in advance. Not only that, we go the extra mile by leveraging our learnings from our ML models to provide 'suggested actions' -- juicy insights that a CSM can apply directly to reduce the chance that their customers will churn.From a skills perspective, a big attraction of joining Hook is that I can exercise most (if not all) quintessential aspects of data science.

About Wayflyer:Provides revenue based funding to eCommerce SMEs. Founded in 2019 and secured Series B fundraising in Feb 2022. My role:Forecasting Lead responsible for maintaining existing forecast pipelines as well as R&D of new forecast methods. Accurate forecasts are crucial to provide the customer the best offer.My highlights:- Created an ensemble forecast model to improve the predictions of customers' future revenue; led to $1M+ in business revenue.- Reduced customer forecast generation task from 15 mins to 1 min leading to +10% increase in productivity of individual Underwriters.- Maintained an Extract Transform Load (ETL) pipeline used to monitor and troubleshoot forecast performance.- Refactored forecast generation task to facilitate backtesting of new forecast algorithms.- Co-developed a Git repo for commonly used data science tools that improved reproducibility and maintainability of dependent microservices.

About Spotify:Spotify is a digital music and podcast service that gives users access to millions of tracks and episodes, either through a paid, ad-free subscription or a free, feature-limited experience.About my role:Worked in an interdisciplinary Squad to build new and more effective user flows. I was also in charge of managing a Tribe-level view of success for the Premium User Lifecycle.My highlights:- Led data analytics for Spotify’s Referral Program. Used a Bayesian approach to advocate for an Always-On campaign adding +200K new subscribers a year.- Pseudo Analytics Engineer: built the first data pipeline to monitor key metrics of the Spotify Premium user lifecycle, adding value to strategic decision making and processing billions of rows of data.- Led insight generation of user retention leading to a program aimed to onboard Premium users more effectively, whilst highlighting incorrect assumptions about the user journey.- Quantified unauthorised account sharing leading to a crack down on 0.2% of account violations.

About Not On The High Street:An online curated marketplace started in 2006. Home to 5000+ of the UK's best small, creative businesses.About my role:Product Owner of the product listing algorithm. Also worked closely with Marketing and ran A/B tests. Supervised two junior data scientists.My highlights:- Developed and productionized a product listing algorithm to present products more effectively. Resulted in +$3M turnover per year (+2% overall turnover).- Productionized a Customer Lifetime Value model for user-level churn probability and purchase prediction. Retained ~4% of customers from lapsing.- Quantified the amount of product duplication and product variation on the website. Led the partner team to reach out to businesses and take action, leading to a cleaner experience for users.- Co-developed a Markov Chain model to attribute purchases to multiple channels more effectively, thus preventing discontinuation of investment in paid marketing channels.

Investigated the genetic and environmental basis of common complex traits.

I did my PhD here. It involved the development of using DNA pools on Affymetrix genotyping arrays. I later applied this technique to look for genes of small effect size that contribute to the genetic variance of common complex cognitive traits. I first-authored one review article, two substantive papers and three technical papers during my 4 years here.
