LeeAnn Capps' duties within Navigator include media/public relations, press releases, marketing, technical editing, Web site content writing and recruiting.• Previously served on a media panel for the Warrant Officer Career Center at Fort Rucker, Ala. Met quarterly with senior warrant officer classes to discuss how to work with the news media.• Served as the main writer for the non-profit organization Friends of Fort Rucker’s federal agenda for two years to help maintain and enhance the viability of the Army installation. • Was the technical editor on the: European Command Air Control Capability Roadmap Package for Five Gulf of Guinea Nations; Joint Unmanned Aircraft Systems Center of Excellence UAS Survivability, Susceptibility, and Vulnerability Phase II study; and the Joint Concept of Operations for Unmanned Aircraft Systems.

Responsible for complete coverage of Dale County, Ala., which covers Fort Novosel (formerly Rucker), home of U.S. Army Aviation. Experienced in covering a wide range of stories, from national government and military leaders to local politics; natural disasters from severe flooding to hurricanes; from troop deployments to the latest technological advances in aviation; from defense cuts to defense budget appropriations that impact area military installations and industry; and crime, from the initial investigation through the judicial process. Developed a variety of feature stories highlighting community members and in-depth coverage of events which impact our readers. Extensive coverage of aviation related topics included:• RAH-66 Comanche, from initially a Light Helicopter program to Fort Rucker’s involvement in development of the warfighter. • AH-64 Apache, from growing pains to enhancements to create the AH-64D Apache Longbow• Flight training at Fort Novosel (formerly Rucker), from Multi-Track to Flight School XXI• History of Fort Novosel (formerly Rucker) and Army Aviation, from the creation of the installation to the decision to arm helicopters.• The future of Army Aviation, from Modernization to Transformation.• Traveled to Bosnia and Kosovo to provide in-depth coverage of aviation related topics and of progress in the countries being made by troops deployed there.Won numerous state and national Journalism awards. Received the D. Tennant Bryan Award from Media General for Best Feature Story - Community for a 16-page special insert on my coverage of Kosovo.

Responsible for coverage of a variety of assignments, from local government to aviation-related stories. Part of a small, dedicated staff, which worked as a team taking on additional tasks as needed to produce the paper.

Offered the opportunity to establish a new program in community relations for the county school system. Published a monthly, countywide newspaper covering seven schools, which highlighted achievements of the students and informed parents about educational changes. Established the newspaper’s format and served as editor/photographer. Additional responsibilities included: setting up media coverage for special events, 1986 yearbook advisor for New Brockton High School and taught a two-week creative writing course to gifted, elementary students.

The only news reporter for the oldest family-owned, weekly newspaper in Alabama. Coverage area included Dale County and Fort Novosel (formerly Rucker).
