Working closely with sales & customer service to provide technical expertise in support of the selling and retaining Proto Labs services. Have a solid understanding of the customer’s technical requirements and ability to make design changes and communicate appropriate solutions. Assist the customer in working through recommended or required changes to their 3D CAD model to help them take advantage of Proto Labs’ value. Balance the objective of satisfying the customer requests with the potential of downstream risks to deliver acceptable parts on schedule.*Phone follow-up to non-customer contacts that have received quotes with required 3D CAD model changes to discuss how they can make the changes to improve manufacturability using the Proto Labs’ processes* Participate in customer meetings and conference calls upon request to provide technical support for the sales process* Promptly and accurately address technical questions including resin, moldability and part design issues from contacts using the appropriate communication tool* Address technical objections from customers by focusing on Proto Labs’ strengths * Communicate opportunities and risks identified during customer interactions to appropriate sales representative* Support customer-centric philosophy in all written and verbal communications both internally and externally* When reviewing and approving outgoing quotations, act as the primarily technical resource to evaluate opportunities where it is appropriate to work outside of the standard Proto Labs processes.* Document relevant notes in the intranet and critical information in CRM to move the sales process forward* Resolve issues diplomatically in a logical, non-emotional manner* Contribute to continuous improvement activities as required

Plans, organizes, assigns, directs and reviews the work of CAD drafting and illustrating personnel; provides and coordinates the use of procedures, computer equipment and materials; recommends budgetary requirements; and performs related work as assigned.This is the first level of supervision, responsible for supervising the day-to-day activities of the Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) staff. Supervisor responsible for assigned personnel, and is responsible for timely and accurate completion of work in accordance with standards and procedures. Work at a high level of independence with authority for decision-making on daily work assignment.* Supervise the department to produce and revise drawings for technical compliance with requirements and satisfaction of project schedules* Coordinate the drawing review and release cycle* Maintain and improve applicable procedures and forms* Recommend CAD hardware and software and other tools to maintain and enhance productivity* Make recommendations on staffing requirements to meet department commitments* Provide supervision of the department to include staffing, training and development, and performance

It is the responsibility of the Mechanical Designer to specify, design, and verify all aspects of the mechanical system.* Verification of client specifications.* Perform mechanical design, engineering, documentation, and drafting/modeling duties for customer projects.* Model mechanical system designs in AutoCAD.* Prepare bills of materials for finished mechanical assemblies.* Assist in the creation of finished mechanical assembly and fabrication drawings.* Assist in the preparation of finished as-built & as-installed versions of above drawings.* Perform hand calculations to provide engineering analysis of fatigue, stress, loads, and forces as it pertains to mechanical design.* Participate in internal and external engineering and design reviews and produce redline/revision packages for review.

Prepare working layouts and finished drawings of components, assemblies, or systems from specifications, prior layouts, well-defined sketches, models or verbal instructions sufficient for detailing various types of material-handling equipment.* Layout AutoCAD major or minor components, assemblies, or systems.* Performs mathematical calculations to work out detailed additions to specifications.* Develops design of details not completely defined.* Projects sections and auxiliary views of components on layouts.* Makes corrections, revisions, and changes to layouts in AutoCAD as directed.* Coordinates and works in conjunction with other workers designing, laying out, or detailing same or related products.
