Firmware Architect
As an architect I serve as technical liaison between developers and management, helping make risk/reward decisions and advising both sides how to proceed. I’m also expected to look for problem areas within the firmware organization, and provide solutions whether its process changes, new tools, personnel changes, or suggesting areas of code in need of rewrite. * Embedded myself on various FW teams to improve team productivity and code quality. Emphasizing cross training, code reviews, and improved communication. * Jumped in to help with the bringup of first silicon for a new co-developed Marvell ASSP with quad-core A53 Arm processors. * Mentoring multiple engineers in both Lexington & Cebu to give them a broader view of the business. * Served as Product Owner for a small team responsible for moving our code builds to Yocto.
System Firmware Engineer
* Led a small team responsible for improving developer efficiency. Rolled out code review tools, automated unit testing of builds, and build tool usability improvements for firmware developers in Lexington & Cebu. * Rewrote panel control code to improve touch responsiveness and improve system integration. Including debug of panel microcontroller code (Atmel Tiny48) * Member of one of the pilot scrum teams within Lexmark. Delivered the first version of Lexmark’s Cloud Solution Framework using Qt/Webkit embedded on the printer, and communicating off box through various web services.
Kernel Team Lead
* Led a team of 2-5 engineers supporting, upgrading and porting our version of Linux (kernel, glibc). We supported multiple platforms (Mips, ARM and PowerPC) out of a single code base, and would upgrade to pick up new customer facing features such as IPv6 and IPsec networking, as well as new under the cover optimizations like NPTL. * Responsible for triage & debug of difficult system issues found during the test phase of each new printer, including Out of Memory crashes, Hangs, Watchdogs, and memory leaks.
Bios Firmware Engineer
* Rewrote basic operating system, C library and math library as part of a clean-room rewrite * Implemented a custom lightweight virtual memory system to improve performance on a high end color laser printer using a Mips R5000 processor by dynamically placing code in SRAM. * Part of a small team that investigated using Linux as the operating systems for laser printers, and then helped port our code base to Linux for a Mips R4300 processor
Intern
4 semester long internships in firmware and EE areas * Wrote a 1284 bidi parallel port emulator for testing new ASICs. * Set up a problem tracking system for triage and prioritization of issues on the first Lexmark duplexer. * Ported a debug monitor and code loader to AMD 29200 processor.
