During my time at the City of Lacombe I have expanded my knowledge of planning and developmental at the municipal level. For the first six months, I focused on the development side of the profession to gain a greater understanding on how the long range plans are implemented in the community. I then divided my time between development and planning while answering inquiries from the community regarding development permits, subdivision applications, policies and procedures. During my time at the City I issued: compliance certificates, development permits, building permits, home occupation permits, subdivision applications and worked on re-zone applications. I was also given the opportunity to work on several large projects including updates to two Area Structure Plans, the Intermunicipal Development Plan and the Land Use Bylaw.

I assist the Director of the Office of Eco-Seneca Initiatives with various environmental projects for the College and external clients, in addition to completing administrative tasks for the department. Over the past year I have worked on several different projects such as: conducting research for an urban regeneration report for the City of Hamilton, organizing a conference with about 250 attendees, organizing a networking event for engineering students, managing the community garden project, maintaining the gardens for our department, managing the implementation of bee hives as an expansion of the garden project, and organizing interviews for our Green Citizen Campaign YouTube Channel.

After completing the interactive asset map, United Way Toronto hired the group for a couple months to conduct two extra tasks. The first was to create a training manual for United Way Toronto and Action for Neighbourhood Change. The training manual was a step to step guide on how to upload data onto Geocommons. The second task consisted of visiting each priority neighbourhood to educate employees and local leaders on how to keep the data and maps up to date.

In the summer of 2011 and 2012 I worked at Seneca College as an Assistant in the Office of Eco-Seneca Initiatives. During this time I worked on two difference projects. The first was a community garden where we built eight plots that were open to the various departments on campus. My role was to help build, promote, maintain and manage the gardens throughout both summers. The second project was the creation and development of the Green Citizen Campaign. The Green Citizen Campaign is an online learning module where individuals learn about the important role that the environment plays in our everyday life. During the summer of 2011 I helped design the website, filter through the material, and transcribed videos. During the second summer I helped create the Green Citizen Learning Handbook, I wrote a paper on urban regeneration, and organized interviews with individuals to help promote the importance of the environment. In addition to these two projects I also filled in at the front desk at least once a week where I was able to improve my customer service skills as I helped teachers, staff, parents and students with their questions and concerns.
