I am began a exciting new chapter in my work career on Mon 29 April 2019 with Thistle Foundation. I support 12 teams who in turn support people in their own homes. Thistle and I both have the same view about building positive relationships and supporting strong communication pathways.Before Thistle I worked for Teensplus. This gave me 8 years experience with young adults who have complex communication difficulties in an life long learning centre. Here I developed my knowledge of complex behaviours and sensory and communication needs. This ignited a passion for myself to learn and be able to support learning. I became a trainer for an amazing communication resource,Talking Mats. Talking Mats is a brilliant communication tool for anyone to use who finds a conversation difficult.Having worked previously in hospitality for 25 years, I managed to keep my finger in the proverbial pie. I did this by volunteering to sit on Edinburgh Community Food board. This innovative charity leads the way in many food projects both in Edinburgh and nationally.I am also a trainer for REHIS in elementary food hygiene. While working at Teens+ I set up a joint award with REHIS 'Healthy You, Healthy Me' encompassing food hygiene and nutrition, which the complex young adults can work towards .I also volunteered as an alcohol counsellor for alcohol focus Scotland. I still have a keen interest in supporting people to become their authentic selves. Currently I am fact finding for myself by going sober.
