Within the University of Florida's Engineering School of Sustainable Infrastructure and Environment, the Water Systems discipline conducts research projects aiming to develop innovative methods for hydraulic assessments, improve water quality, and design more sustainable urban water systems. The research project I assist focuses on quantifying sediment removal performance, by particle size fraction, of a device under different surface loading rates. I help run weekly rainfall simulations that last five to twenty hours. Once samples are collected from the simulations, I perform Suspended Sediment Concentration testing and Particle Size Distribution testing. I am also learning how to organize and analyze the collected data.
