Now 20 years experience working on Enterprise Java solutions for the financial sector, through consultancy, startup company owner, solution integrator, solution architecture and R&D department manager. That experience gives me perspective. Today, I strongly believe that cloud-native architectures, cloud platforms and micro services architectures are going to change the way we build and deploy enterprise applications over the next years. These are transformational technology shifts that allowed companies such as Netflix, Uber, AirBnb… to become leaders in their respective industries.That’s why I focused my work on these technologies, and I learned a lot about building cloud native applications, operating them in a production environment, and leveraging cloud specific distribution channels.Whatever the size and sector of your company, I strongly encourage you to consider the use of these technologies in your next projects, or to initiate a dedicated Proof of Concept. Be sure that some of your concurrents are doing so. Modern deployment platforms such as Kubernetes are the perfect match to deploy cloud native applications. They offer strong benefits in term of agility, robustness, as well as cost effectiveness. Couple that with infrastructure as code, where the infrastructure elements are declared in code (such as Terraform) and stored in a source control tool like Git, and you also get full traceability on the evolution of your platform.
