About Lennart Overkamp
Design is a company's strategic capability to navigate uncertainty, innovate, reduce the risk of adoption failure of new products and services, and ensure a consistent customer experience across touchpoints. I help teams and companies to pursue the right objective, solve the right problem, and build the right solution. Always eager to share my knowledge through talks, articles, workshops, and coaching, I’m enthusiastic about social innovation, service design and psychology, and downright passionate about (design) ethics. Through my ongoing work on Daily Ethical Design, I challenge and provide a responsible alternative to the harmful paradigm of 'business-as-usual' and the fantasy of endless growth. I question, formulate objectives that unite and inspire, and help designers to act on organisational levers that achieve meaningful impact. I hold a Master of Science (MSc) in Human Factors and a Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng) in User-System Interaction. Over a span of 10 years, I’ve applied my design skills in a multitude of sectors, most notably aviation, logistics, manufacturing, and global commodity trade. At all times, I strive for a context-first and insights-driven approach to design, maintaining a firm belief in the power of active listening throughout any interaction with end-users, clients, colleagues, and other stakeholders. My specialties: responsible design, human research, problem (re)framing, product discovery, information architecture, content-first design, co-creation, mentoring, people management, creative leadership, DesignOps

User Experience Designer | Professional Doctorate Candidate
At this paid position I brought my expertise about Human Factors and usability to a multicultural team of talented psychologists, designers and computer scientists, working daily on projects and design cases within several industries. Performing user research and product evaluations, we strove to create design systems which are effective, easy to use, and provide fulfilling user experiences.Clients include: Philips -- Royal Kentalis -- Municipality of Haarlem
Work Instructions Designer
After my steep learning curve as an intern, I was offered this position at Philips Lighting to design, create, implement, revise and improve work instructions, in accordance with psychological scientific literature and design principles for usability. The created work instructions are still used to support (learning) processes of assembly operators, as well as for standardization of job processes throughout multiple layers of the organization.
Internship: Design & Implementation Of Work Instructions
Following an open application to Philips Lighting, during this internship I conceived a new design for work instructions based on psychological scientific literature and usability principles. Moreover, I helped improving the development and implementation of a standardized way of working for creating these work instructions. The new format for work instructions is used to support (learning) processes for assembly operators, and is fully implemented in the workflow at Philips Winterswijk. Multiple people were hired to continue creating, revising and improving work instructions. Rated 9 by the University’s committee, this internship won the European finals of Philips Lighting’s Business Improvement Competition (BIC) 2014.
