Leo Hwang recieved his B.A. in English and Fine Arts from the University of the South, an M.F.A. in Fiction Writing from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a Ph.D. in Economic Geography from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst where he studied the diverse economic practices of artists and artisans of Franklin County, Massachusetts through the Rethinking the Creative Economy Project. His current work focuses on utilizing participatory action research and asset based community development to address racial equity and justice in higher education.Leo Hwang’s writing has appeared in The Massachusetts Review, Gilmmer Train Stories, Rivendell, Can We Have Our Ball Back?, Fiction, Three Candles, Gulf Coast, The Vermont Literary Review, Meat for Tea, and The Dickinson Review. He was a recipient of the Rosselli/de Filippis Scholarship at the Napa Valley Writers’ Conference and three work-study scholarships at the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference.Leo has taught at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst; Mount Holyoke College; Greenfield Community College; Westfield State University; and Saint Andrew’s Sewanee; and was Dean of Humanities, Engineering, Math, and Science at Greenfield Community College.Currently residing in Western Massachusetts, Leo is the Assistant Academic Dean in the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
