I examined the manner by which P-glycoprotein (ABCB1) nucleotide-binding domains move relative to each other during the catalytic cycle and how potential inhibitors may affect this process. My aim was to apply this knowledge to identify combinations of drugs that maximally inhibit P-gp activity, thus promoting chemotherapeutic drug efficacy and reducing adverse reactions.
Phd (Pathology And Molecular Medicine)
My research involved characterizing the function of ABCA1 with respect to its ability to interact with nucleotide as well as translocate substrate across the lipid bilayer. In addition, the influence of several naturally occurring mutations found in the general population associated with low/absent HDL-C levels were examined with respect to ABCA1 function.
