About Leon Bunthof Phd

Show less

http://www.ru.nl/ams/Solar cell performance is generally determined under strictly controlled lab conditions. However, outside of the lab these conditions are rarely met, which may influence device performance in major ways. The aim of this research is to investigate the effects of inhomogeneity in i.e. light intensity or wavelength across the solar cell surface, on the performance of the device.

Structural effects of paramagnetic doping on CASN matrix.Calcium Aluminum Silica Nitrides (CASN) are porous, glasslike materials. The crystal structure is made up of randomly distributed silica and aluminum cores, each tetrahedrally surrounded by nitrogen cores. Within the structure, many cavities exist, which are inhabited by calcium ions. If a fraction of these calcium ions is replaced by differing rare-earth-metals (ex. Cs, Eu) by high-temperature metal doping, the material gains… Show more Structural effects of paramagnetic doping on CASN matrix.Calcium Aluminum Silica Nitrides (CASN) are porous, glasslike materials. Within the structure, many cavities exist, which are inhabited by calcium ions. If a fraction of these calcium ions is replaced by differing rare-earth-metals (ex. Cs, Eu) by high-temperature metal doping, the material gains phosphorescent properties – wavelength depending on the chosen dopant. These phosphorescent characteristics make CASN an important resource in the LED industry, with applications ranging from ‘soft’ LED lighting to High Definition television screens. The effect of a paramagnetic dopant - in the form of manganese - on the structural parameters of CASN was investigated by means of 27Al NMR. Structural information on samples containing varying fractions of Mn (0 – 50 %) was obtained through single pulse, relaxometry, and MQMAS experiments. Show less

Investigation of the crystallization behavior of hotmelt ink.A hotmelt ink dries after printing by crystallization. One of the main requirements for hotmelt is a controlled crystallization time. In this studies, ways to influence the crystallization behaviour of hotmelt by altering the recipy have been investigated.

Metabolomics is the discipline that focuses on the metabolome, as well as taking environmental conditions into account. In order for an organism to function properly, most metabolites need to be present in concentrations within certain boundaries; hence, the metabolome provides vital information about the chemical processes, or the lack thereof, in the organism. The metabolomics composition of human cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) was investigated by means of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy (NMR). Several NMR techniques were employed in order to gather the information about the metabolomics composition of human CSF. We selected NMR, since it can provide information about a sample chemical composition, without prior knowledge of its contents. Artificial samples were prepared and measured to determine how many times the human CSF has to be concentrated in order to identify the highest number of metabolites in human CSF. 51 Endogenous metabolites were observed, all of which have readily been confirmed in human CSF previously. Furthermore several common drugs were observed, as well as two compounds known to be in the human metabolome, but have not yet been confirmed to be in human CSF; namely myo-inositol and methylsuccinate. In addition several unknown signals were identified. Show less
