Our holistic service provides ongoing support within Pupil Referral Units and Mainstream Schools using a variety of tailor made methods and interventions, deemed necessary and appropriate for each individual young person. We provide a needs based service, to effect positive and sustained change in our young people.• Mentivity aims to increase personal, cultural and structural understanding of the world that surrounds our young people, through positive and engaging activities, sports participation, mentoring, formal/informal education and nurturing conversations to effect positive change within their own lives.• Mentivity strives to successfully mentor young people in a positive, understanding and encouraging manner that will inspire them to engage and successfully reintegrate into the school and wider society, whilst improving their learning outcomes.• Alongside this process we at Mentivity shall use sport and positive and enriching activities as a rehabilitative and engaging tool to cultivate young people, acquiring positive transferable qualities that sport and positive activities can offer, allowing and assisting them to develop personally, socially and educationally as young people.• This will in turn stimulate critical thinking amongst young people, through engaging conversation, inspirational workshops, motivating presentations to assist the process. Allowing the young people to develop increased self-discipline, to become more accountable and responsible for their own actions, whilst realizing that they can make positive contributions to their own lives and consequently society as a whole.

  • Walworth Academy
    Mentor/Head Of Inclusion
    Walworth Academy Apr 2011 - Jul 2013
Walworth Academy: as a Learning Mentor, the role incorporates pastoral, academic and behaviour support responsibilities; I am also a Year 10 form tutor. On a day-to-day basis I am responsible for managing the KS4 internal referral unit in accordance with the Academy Behaviour Policy, running KS4 boys’ mentoring groups, and I work as part of the KS4 Pastoral team on the on-call rota as well as in the Learning Support and Inclusion Team, which offers one-to-one mentoring of targeted students and in-class support for students returning from exclusion. The first aspect of my current role involves dealing with students who are referred to the unit for a period of reflection following an incident in class, as part of the behavior on call system, or for a fixed term exclusion of up to five days. In the first instance, I encourage students to reflect on their behaviour and to set personal targets using a pastoral support plan (PSP). I am passionate about young people achieving their full potential and I have consistently high expectations of students, encouraging them to focus on the long term goal of a minimum 7 A*-C at GCSE, but setting them interim SMARRT targets as a framework within which to work. I add the extra ‘R’ because I record all objectives set, so that there is a working agreement between the students and the Academy. Where students are referred to the Unit for a fixed period, I organise the setting of work for students and oversee the completion of their work in all subjects, as well as supporting the reintegration process following an exclusion by supporting students in class for their first few lessons.
