Dr Leonardo Mataruna’s key research interests are in Education and Sport (as legacies of Mega Events, Social Media, Sport Coaching, Sport Management, Mobile Learning, Sport for Peace, PE, Innovation and new technologies). He is a licensed 1st Lieutenant of the Brazilian Navy and is part of the Brazilian Judo Confederation (Strategic Coach). In sport he has professional experience in Judo, Taekwondo, Football, and Athletics. He attended, as part of the Judo team, the Olympics in Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Rio 2016. He attended the Paralympic Games in Athens 2004 as a coach, and Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016 as a journalist (commentator). He attended more that 180 international sport competition in 102 countries and more than 200 conferences. He also attended the FIFA 2014 Football Cup, as a research scientist, and the Winter Olympics of Torino 2006, Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014, as an observer and volunteer. Dr Mataruna is part of Coventry University’s CTPSR as Associate Research Fellow and is a Visiting Lecturing for the Advantage Program of Contemporary Culture (PACC-UFRJ), Brazil; TUM, Germany and Universidad de Occident in Los Mochis, Mexico.
