• Schedule and coordinate meetings, appointments, and events for the HOD;• Manage correspondence and communication on behalf of the HOD;• Prepare and distribute agendas, minutes, and reports for departmental meetings;• Prepare presentations and materials for meetings, workshops and conferences;• Maintain departmental records, including files, budgets, and administrative documents;• Monitor and manage departmental budgets, expenses, and procurement processes;• Coordinate departmental projects and initiatives, monitoring progress and deadlines;• Organise and coordinate departmental events, seminars, and academic activities; and• Oversee office supplies, equipment and facilities, and coordinate repairs or replenishments.

• Conduct field visits to assess environmental conditions and identify improvement areas;• Gather and analyse data from various sources to understand environmental challenges;• Conduct literature reviews on environmental issues and best practices relevant to the eThekwini area;• Synthesise research findings into reports that outline insights and recommendations; • Design environmental management initiatives tailored to the needs of the area; and• Establish and manage monitoring and evaluation systems for the project. • Provide tutoring for Environmental Management, GIS, Environmental Systems and Human Geography and Sustainable Cities and Development modules;• Provide support to students, helping them with assignments and test/exam preparation;• Grade and provide feedback on assignments, essays, research projects; and• Organise career and academic development programs for undergraduate students.Key projects:1. • Gather data through surveys, interviews, and field observations for the Centre for Civil Society;• Facilitate group discussions to understand the perspectives of marginalised communities;• Conduct literature reviews to collect research relevant to the Centre’s focus areas;• Prepare reports detailing research findings and present them to stakeholders; and• Facilitate feedback sessions with project stakeholders, including community leaders and municipal representatives and civil society organisations.
