I am a teacher who helps students get what they need so they can get what they want! I have transitioned from teaching academic subjects at the elementary school level to teaching English as a second language to international adult students. I earned my CELTA certification in September of 2015 while studying in Montanita, Ecuador. As an elementary school teacher, I found that I loved working with international students—helping them to assimilate into an American classroom while learning about their cultures - getting to know students both as learners and individuals. I was an international student myself in both a high school summer- abroad program in Spain and a college semester abroad in Mexico. So I, too, have experienced being out of my element in a new setting. While completing my masters, I worked as a Graduate Assistant in UCF’s College of Education. I loved supporting undergraduate students. I particularly enjoyed our peer relationship. I also enjoyed planning, organizing, and implementing activities to support on and off-campus activities.I have a reputation for using my strong organizational skills and attention to detail to successfully plan, organize, and implement lessons and activities that help students reach their goals. One of my favorite parts of teaching has always been collaborating with colleagues to move students forward. I know how to build a team and motivate it to keep going forward. As department chair of my grade level, I created a close-knit team that worked towards a common goal – student success. So how did I become a teacher? I took time off from my sales job at an international food company to raise my children and, through my volunteer activities, discovered that I have a passion for teaching!
