Following leaving Secondary Education I joined the ICI Trainee Scientist Program where I gained experience of working in Research and Development in the Chemical Industry at Wilton, Redcar.I also studied part time and gained a HNC in Chemistry at Teesside University. I was offered a permanent position as a Research Assistant within the ICI Synthetic Lubricants business. I decided to continue my education and started studying a Part Time Degree in Applied Chemistry at Northumbria University.I changed jobs after 3 years and moved to Lucite International where I continued working in the Laboratory environment as a Research Scientist.I graduated from university with a First Class BSc(Hons) Degree in Applied Chemistry.I continued to work for Lucite International and over the years I started to realise that I was becoming more concerned about the reduction in health and safety training that was being provided to the younger members of staff and I was concerned that they were not being provided with the knowledge and confidence they needed to work safely in a hazardous and challenging environment. I decided that I would like to know more about Health and Safety at Work, so I enrolled at Middlesbrough College to study the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. I graduated with a Credit and then changed my role within Lucite International to a more Safety focused position.Lucite International was taken over my Mitsubishi Chemicals and I was offered the position of Health and Safety Advisor in the Global SHE Department. During this position I decided to continue studying and enrolled into the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety at Northumbria University.In February 2022 I was offered the position of Environmental, Sustainability and Governance Manager for the Wilton Centre for MAPP. I continued my study and graduated with a Credit in October 2022.I enjoy the opportunities this new role has offered and look forward to seeing what new challenges each day provides.
