My job is to manage and promote internship, mentorship and job shadow opportunities in order to introduce youth to public service and develop the workforce that San Diego needs. Increased access to work readiness opportunities gives youth the skills they need to succeed in the career of their choice. For the previous nine years I worked as a professional Librarian with the San Diego Public Library, working with volunteers, youth, work readiness and vocational training programs, and the business community. I was the Project Manager of Career Online High School, which offers a high school diploma and career certificate to qualified applicants. As Volunteer Coordinator for the San Diego Public Library, I coordinated and created volunteer positions for 36 locations. As Manager of the Sciences department, I coordinated business, legal, health and wellness, science, and social science programs and services. As the co-chair of the Seguimos Creando Enlaces Committee I have put on 5 bi-national library conferences. As the Chair of the Advisory Group for Older Adults, I have expertise in services to adults over the age of 50.I have presented six times at National and State Library Association Conferences, and was awarded 9 different grants. I am the Secretary of LIBROS, the San Diego chapter of Reforma, the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking. In addition, I have five years of experience as a High School teacher in San Diego County, along with a Library Media Teacher credential and Master of Education. As a High School teacher, I taught English and Social Studies, with an emphasis on Media Literacy.
