During my internship with Amazon as a Software Development Engineer Intern, I assumed diverse responsibilities. Every morning, I would report to a team of multiple full-time software engineers about my progress. Here I would inform the team mainly on the progress of my intern project, which was to create a custom search algorithm on over 400,000 items in Amazon’s database. Before beginning the development of this search algorithm, I presented a design document to multiple senior and junior software engineers. In its development, I kept an open line of communication with my team, especially with my manager and mentor. This ensured I stayed on track to meet my goals while also allowing me to ask questions when I encountered an impasse. At the end of my internship, I had successfully developed, integrated, tested, and load-tested my algorithm in my team’s code base. The search algorithm surpassed its performance stretch goals delivering results sorted by relevancy to the user on 400k+ items in Amazon's database at a P99 latency of 210ms.
